THE GUN

        THE GUN

It is the need for superior ability to destroy swiftly that motivated

man into the research of science and technology to invent GUN. Before this invention, the ancient war  was fought with hand-made tools, like sword, bow and arrow, and spear. Their production were laborious, time consuming and exhaustive.  The invention and use of Gun has lasted for almost two centuries and over time it has been reduced to a portable size, Swift and durable. The possession of which gives the owner added courage, assurance and a feeling of superiority. It is sustained like a dome.

Before then, the Romans had not invented gun, if they had, their Empire would have expanded beyond the record of Europe and Africa that we have.

Britain with their technological  knowledge had improved their invention that gave them more superior power and bigger Empire. Their achievement and  legacy are still utilized by its colonies.

In its various forms, a gun is called a pistol, rifle, revolver and it can be operated in all the nooks and crannies of the World, conveniently.

The conquests of the British Empire can be attributed to the effectiveness of its war weapon – the Gun especially. So also was the victory of America over Britain on its War of Independence. So much of Gun was utilized and George Washington led America to victory. If there is any aggressive weapon of victory as a unit it is the gun. It has been grossly proliferated virtually by all countries of the world for fighting. There was no nation whose history is not punctuated by civil unrest and preponderant use of gun. And no nation can be classified as super power unless it has an arsenal of weapon of destruction including guns.

In 1861, a civil war broke out between the industrial north of America led by President Abraham Lincoln called the Union soldier (Yankees) for the unification of the states into one country, and the leaders of the agricultural south that assembled themselves into the Confederate south. A major bone of contention was the insistence of the north that the slave workers should be liberated, but the owners of south states disagreed and waged a war. Of course, the black slaves enlisted with the Union soldiers. There was a massive use by the warring parties of the gun – musket ( a long barrel gun).

The 1st world war (1914 – 1918) was fought between Germany on one side and Britain and France with American support on the other. The fatalities of this war was put at 40 million.

The 2nd World War was motivated by Adolf Hitler who rabble-roused the Germans into believing that they were a superior race to the rest of the world. Over 25 countries including the British colonies fought the war. It was escalated by Japan Navy that bombed the American naval base at

Pearl Harbor, Honolulu, Hawai on December 7 1941 killing 2400 people and 1000 casualties in one massive aerial attack.Over 50 million people perished. It was the biggest war in history which lasted from 1939 to 1945.

Between 1950 and 1953, North and South Korea went to war called the Korean War with Soviet Union and America siding each region separately. Fatalities were 36,000. Then came the

Vietnam War, known as 2nd Indochina War or Resistance War against America.  It was a war between the North Vietnam (Laos) and the South Vietnam which America aided. The war started in 1958 and ended in 1975 and casualties were 1.4 million. Aside from these major wars there had been a perennial hostilities between the Israelis and Palestinians in which gun was used as the major weapon and still being used. So also, there had been continuous skirmishes in several Asian and African countries with the use of guns In all of these cases the Gun has been the predominant tool of operation.

THE ROYALTY OF THE VOICE

THE ROYALTY OF THE VOICE

“It is from the horse’s mouth”. A universal phrase that underscores the fact. Of all the organs of human structure the voice renders the most efficient and versatile service. It announces the arrival of the baby and silent over its departure at old age.

The Queen of England, Elizabeth with her sister, accompanied their father, King George the V, on a royal visit to South Africa. She made a radio broadcast from the boat, on her 21st birthday, to the British colonies of her promissory royal service to the people on her ascending the throne. She was a princess and a potential queen. That was a vocal commitment.

In 1962, America discovered U S S R was constructing a nuclear missile site in CUBA. JFK instructed a blockade of the site by the American warships and khrushchev, the Russian Premier, ordered a dismantling of the site. It was a war of the ‘ Almighty’ words!

Ronald Reagan was known as the great communicator. At his meeting with Gorbachev of Russia at the Berlin Wall, during the Cold War he suggested to him (Gorbachev) “tear down this wall”, (the power of words) and he did, allowing the Germans to have free movement to and fro.

Adolf Hitler was reputed to be a powerful speech maker to talk the Germans into waging a war against the rest of the world. He used his voice.

Osama Bin Ladin with the Doctrine of the Quran talked the Arabs with the use of airplanes to crash into the world trade centers. Again, voice!

Several political/religious fanatics are known to have talked and manipulated their followers into crises. Voice.

According to the Bible, the world was created by order, words of the mouth.

As we can see, the voice can create and avert war. Once the voice spews, such words qualifies to become a marble print. All offensive words demand for apologies.

Its works and abilities are myriad.

The statements of pastors now have become a verbal doctrines to the followers. To have a control over its service you have to muffle its passage. Writing is an expression o the thought just as the voice is the terminal conveyor.

What can the voice not do? Think about it.

THE DEMAGOGUE

THE DEMAGOGUE

Adolf Hitler started the World War 11 by invading Poland in 1939 much in defiance of the peace Treaty of Versaille. His rabble rousing speeches initially earned him fame and social acceptance. The consequence of this character became an inquisitive study in the psychopathic nature of mankind. He was born April 20 1889 in Austria-Hungary and committed suicide on April 30 1945 in Berlin. He moved to Germany and joined the Army in World War 1 in 1919 and enlisted with German Workers Party. In 1921 he rose to the leadership of the German Party. Due to his attempt In 1923 to seize the leadership of his party that failed, he was jailed and released in 1924. While in prison he wrote his book Mein Keimpf (“My Struggle”). Events during this

period began to underscore Hitlers leadership ambition with his prolific rabble rousing speeches. He brainwashed the Germans that they were a superior race

destined to rule the world. The Nazi party was the biggest in the Reichstag (parliament) but had no majority. The parliament persuaded the president to appoint Hitler as the chancellor and on 30 Jan 1933, Hitler was made the Chancellor. Thereafter His anti-Semitic hatred and that of capitalism began to establish through his policy and the Holocaust, his subterranean,

extermination of the Jews, began in ernest and by the end of the war over 6000,000 Jews had been exterminated in gas chambers held by the Germans across Europe. The World War 11 also resulted in the death of over 50 million victims.

Benito Mussolini

He was an Italian politician and journalist and leader of the National Fascist party. He was born on July 29, 1883 and ruled Italy as the Prime Minister was wwith the iron hand of a dictator from 1922 to 1943, he was deposed and executed in 1945 by firing squad. His dictatorial and anti-human philosophical doctrines are many. To him, “war is to man what maternity

. I

Is to a woman, from a philosophical and fictional viewpoint. To him, “I don’t believe in perpetual peace” “Let us have a dagger between our teeth, a bomb in our hands, and an infinite scorn in our heart.” He took the title “11 Duce” meaning “the Leader”, which comes from the root “duke” is from. He accompanied Hitler in prosecuting the “World War 11”. He led Italy to military victory in Libya, Somalia, Ethiopia and Albania. He wanted to resurrect Italy as the ancient Roman Empire with him being the Emperor. He was a restless and a disobedient child, very unruly and aggressive and a bully. His brilliance and success showed in his academic performance. His rabble rousing qualities evident in his rhetorical fluency. He was a voracious leader who virtually read and studied philosophers like Immanuel Kant, Benedicta de Spinoza, Peter Kropotkin, Friedrich Nietzche, G. W. F. Hegel and many other philosophers of his time from where he evolved his own political doctrines. Several times he was arrested and imprisoned when he returned to Italy. Thereafter he became the youngest Italian Prime Minister in October 31, 1922

COVERING UP YOUR FAILURE

COVERING UP YOUR FAILURE

Why do we tell lies?

Do we feel sorry for it?

Who lies most – the politician, pastor, thief, worker………?

Or who are you?

The turmoil of the world is the product of the lies we exchange for material benefits. The more we lie the greater our social leverage to importance. We all have no humble conscience and display it greedily. To all of us it is a desperate race to see who will outrun the other in the struggle for dominance.

Our perfection of lies has been regraded for the “excellent “ without qualms.when our leaders say it they take joy and don’t bat an eye. Our lie giving is in parallel with industrial development, a mutual destruct in the making. Our lie is now a code of existence Relate to a fellow man you will notice that his gene is gradually mutating into a DNA of lies. We have ingested so much lies that has made us obese with our credulous mentality, because the technique we imbibe is now a perfect technology.

And what is our price?

A shameless mess of pottage.

Happy New Year to all my friends without leaving one out.

EITHER THIS OR THAT OR ALL OF THE ABOVE

This is a regular and difficult decision of every human being due to overriding and conflicting choices of preferences. Man is always a victim of his indecision. It is either this or that or all of the above. He has a greedy nature which has a complex list of competitive alternatives. Unfortunately he regrets his choice a good lot of the times. What do you do when you have three offers out of which you have to make a choice of one. This is a dilemma of preference. Usually there is a mental agony in losses which we struggle to avoid. In a nation there are several languages with multiple dialects and accents made worse by geographical location, economic and political life of the people. All of these factors create conflicts and divisions. Industrial developments and sophistication are combined attraction to migrants.Sex of children is a powerful influence in the selection of sex, male or female. It has its influence in cultural preference, social reception and celebration. Profession is also a big problem of choice. Politics is a big social virus that divides and breaks people and nations, that always create hostilities. Man is naturally a lustful and polygamous animal. His choice is insatiable. The male sex is by his native custom allowed to marry as many as the community does not frown at it. The white man by his social pretension marries as many wives in order of one after the other.Let me digress a little to tell the story of the Mormon, an American sect of Christianity. Before its prohibition the Mormon marry as many wives as they lust after. The moslem by their Islamic matrimonial Law are approved to marry as many as four wives. The African tribes by social custom keep a harem of several wives especially the royalties and the wealthy.Mormon was founded by Joseph Smith Jr. in 1830 as a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and one of its doctrines was the freedom of plural marriage and a man must marry at least 3 wives in to enable him admitted admitted into heaven. He hypothesized that marriage as a couple to have children to teach them so that they are equipped to live the rest of their lives on earth and then return to live with their Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. They believe that the first marriage was performed by God. Their President Brigham Young had 51 wives and 56 children by 16 of those wives. The practice was declared immoral, illegal and was abolished by the American Government. It was a superfluous privilege of bride selection. A case of declassifying and open selection of “all of the above.” Man is an insatiable and greedy animal in his plural selection.

ADELUSI OJO DYNASTY

What is it about? What is its origin? Is it a town, a community or a people? Did he arrive as a pilgrim and settled in the outskirts of Egosi? He traded and developed the prowess of reproduction engineer of a great family with ingenuity. His reproduction expertise and affluence transformed him into a polygamist and he created a harem and had fewer men than women who have now dispersed ilnto Diaspora like the children of Israel. His intelligence, education and wealth upgraded him to a community head and a social magnate. You can see the evidence and gene of these attributes in his children, grand children and great grand children. Before his settling in Egosi he had transverse a part of Nigeria as a businessman and a public officer who spoke and wrote good English above the level of his day. He was good-looking, slender, medium height, elegant, wise, respected and full of integrity. His original land of settlement, Egosi, has now expanded into adjoining neighborhood and all renamed as Ilupeju, lifting and upgrading the glory, population, and political status of the amalgamated people. Obviously they speak the same dialect with the same accent. As a matter of fact Ekitis identify their towns with a hyphenation, – , .any Ekiti town that is not so hyphenated e:g Ilupeju-Ekiti, ikole-Ekiti, Ijero-Ekiti for identity except a very few like Ijesa-Isu,Aise-egba, Oke-Mesi. For example as a differentiation of ilupeju-ekiti from ilupeju-Egbado.How do we let the world know he once existed, and created a lot of wealth, went away from us empty-handed, as we all will do,but left a name like the Windsor of Great Britain!
How do we honor this hero of our people? Do we create and give him the posthumous title of a king? How do we celebrate him or how do we remember him? With an irony of fate a great administrator has emerged that will deliver the payload. we will succeed if only we cooperate, are willing, and enthusiastic. God give us the patience, interest, ability and time. The success will be an assistance and a good example. We will all be happy.

CULTURE AND SOCiETY

CULTURE AND SOCIETY

The existence of man on earth has raised two contradictory authorities. The historicity has created these two arguments in this world of our life!!!!

1. The Christians claimed that man was created by the pronouncement of God about 2-3 thousand years ago and a book was written to support the fact.

2. Evolution..the scientists claimed that man

evolved in Africa over 4 millions of years ago by mutation.

Whatever the case may be, the human body is a magnificent piece of engineering honed by all kinds of mutations that adapts itself to all kinds of challenges. It was further speculated and pontificated that the irregular and disjointed surfaces of the planet could be as a result of the evolution. Or until we have a better chronological evidence? Scientific research of human existence and development is never permanent. Whatever we develop continuously modifies our way of life. We exist in a state of flux.

Otherwise how did we get here? Whichever is correct, man began to live together as a community and started his own culture of coexistence to meet his existential challenges.

Man’s interaction created a culture and mutual efforts and benefits by hunting and gathering.

Establishment of communities led to formation of societies and collective actions lead to consequential results.

Charles Darwin, an English naturalist, created the concept of genetic natural selection through mutation to the evolution of mankind. With his activity of hunting and gathering, group farming was developed.

Man from the beginning of his hunting life chased animals with his four limbs, like a chimpanzee, our closest primate.

The necessity for speed and ability converted him to the utilization of two of his limbs for running swift action and balance. Running animals pant and get tired quickly but man needs a form of conserving and prolonging his energy. Therefore he developed the art of walking on two of his limbs thereby getting strengthened and muscular.

Living in a community led to the epidemic of diseases, that awoke the curiosity, observation and scientific investigation of mankind. The survival of the fittest and Darwin’s theory of natural selection led in 21st century to the examination of man. The plague, the pandemic of communal living led mankind to scientific research of his body discovery and development of helpful solution and treatment. Industrial revolution increased the might of European Empires and expansion into the new Continent of America including its epidemic spread. The Chinese discovered the benefit of rice and increased its agricultural expansion. Today China is the greatest consumer of rice. They have an annual festival of rice diet Whereby they provide a line of over 800 tables of the cuisine. It cannot be far fetched to conclude what made Chinese cuisine widespread all over the world.

Milk consumption with its protein strengthened the Mongolians a lot to overpower their enemies.

The Mexicans increased their production and consumption of corn as a staple food and this has resultantly increased their obesity and the prevalence of diabetic disease. This has increased their fat propensity making them tend to be the fattest people in the world.

Is the world going through an infinite gestation?
